The Rodent Control Coordination Unit (RCCU) has been set up and is housed on the 1st Floor -Ministry of Health. The Staff is comprised of a Programme Coordinator, a Communications Officer, an Environmental Officer and eight Vector Control Officers.

The main objective of the Programme is to “control the population and Rats and Mice on the island.” The Programme will directly link poor sanitation practices to the high level infestation which will compel our specific objective of a clean St Lucia.

The programmes’ theme is “Clean up Our Environment, Bait Control Rats and Mice infestation.” This theme has a specific intention for the public to get involve and take ownership of the Rodent Control Programme.

The design of the Programme is to be carried out in phases; first phase is a National Awareness and Education Campaign, during which a survey will be carried out by means of a questionnaire, to access the infestation of rats and mice in households in the North and South of the island. The second phase is the Sanitation, Exclusion and Baiting. The third phase Surveillance, a combination of active and passive surveillance, which will be carried out during this period.
