Thursday, February 19, 2004 - Dozens of delegates from throughout the
Caribbean are getting ready for a regional seminar in St. Lucia to examine
developmental issues, regarding cultural and natural heritage sites throughout
the region.
The February 23rd – 27th meeting will take place at the Cara Suites Hotel and is
sponsored by UNESCO and comes against the backdrop of Caribbean countries
traditionally lacking the capacity to develop and manage such sites.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Physical Development, Environment and
Housing Mr. Martin Satney, says the week-long activity will attempt to put in
place, a plan of action to begin addressing that deficiency. “It is an important
intervention as it represents for the region, the largest gathering of persons
to address this issue,” Mr. Satney said. In addition to UNESCO’s World Heritage
Centre, a United Kingdom based agency is also providing a grant towards funding
the St. Lucia seminar.
Delegates will be treated to several presentations and lectures together with
field trips to points of interests on the island.
