Tuesday, April 13, 2004 - National Authorising Officer (NAO) for EU Operations in St. Lucia, Mr. Wilfred Pierre this week told the Government Information Service (GIS) that his Office had been able to successfully meet the rigid pre-conditions set by the European Commission, for ACP National and Regional Authorizing Officers to access funding for projects.

Mr. Pierre says they are now poised to go on to the next stage, which involves approval of proposed projects, before the financing agreement is prepared.

“We are now preparing some proposals to be submitted to the EU,” Pierre remarked, adding that there were some funds referred to as the B envelope under the National Indicative Programme. He informed that St. Lucia had been allocated 15 million Euros (approximately EC$40 million), but it was very difficult to access the funds, because of the stringent criteria.

According to the local NAO official, the funds should be released by November 2004.
