Monday, April 05, 2004 - Over 400 delegates from sister social security organizations within the region are gearing up to take on their counterparts from St. Lucia, as the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) gets set to host the 2004 Easter Games.

Scheduled for Sunday, April 11th2004, the games will provide an opportunity for participants to not only display their athletic abilities in friendly competition, but to discuss the latest developments relating to social security in the region. Public Relations and Human Resource Manager of the NIC, Augustin Louis says this year’s games holds special significant as it comes on the heels of the corporation’s observance of its 25th anniversary.

“What we have realized is that we all have similar problems and concerns, and in our discussions over the years with one other, we have forged bonds of friendship where we can call up each other and share information and ideas on handling challenging situations, said Mr. Louis. The games, he went on, “also provide a good opportunity for us to socialize, seeing that we are a people in a unique industry, that of social security.”

The Easter Games have been ongoing for the past five years. Delegates will begin arriving here from Thursday, April 8, with the opening ceremony carded for Good Friday April 9, in the Gaiety at Rodney Bay. The event is also expected to generate substantial economic returns for St. Lucia, as the over 400 delegates are expected to visit various places of interest around the island.
