February 20, 2003 - The Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO in collaboration with ISIS World Corporation, this week completed the first in a series of two regional workshops for CXC Information Technology (IT) teachers, and coordinators of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training programs, at the secondary school level. Participants in the Saint Lucia workshop came from the British Virgin Islands, Grenada, St. Vincent and host country Saint Lucia.

The key objectives of the workshops are:

1. To provide a core set of teachers and programme coordinators with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to effectively implement and maintain a program for preparing secondary school students to sit for CXC IT examinations.

2. To provide participants with resources, methodologies and skills to implement ICT training programmes to prepare students for the world of work and further studies in the area of ICT.

3. The establishment of an online network of regional ICT teachers and coordinators which will allow the sharing of ideas and experiences to produce synergy in problem resolution and project implementation.

4. To provide teachers with the fundamentals for launching new ICT projects in their classrooms particularly collaborative projects with other schools within respective countries, as well as with schools across the region.

5. To identify mechanisms for propagating the knowledge and skills gained at the workshops to other teachers and coordinators across the region.

The presenters at the workshops include Mr. Abraham Durant – TVET/ICT coordinator at the Ministry of Education in Dominica, Mr. Albert H. Daniels – Executive Director of ISIS World Corporation, Ms. Sophia Jn. Baptiste – coordinator of the ISIS 2 year CXC IT training program and Mr. Ken Bertin a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer from ISIS. Over the past 3 years ISIS has been working closely with UNESCO and the Ministry of Education here, to expand opportunities for secondary school students to be exposed to ICT training before they graduate from secondary school.

The second leg of these workshops will be held at the ISIS Computer Technology Centre (ISIS-CTC) in Dominica on March 11th and 12th with the support of UNESCO. Participants at that workshop are expected from Anguilla, Montserrat, St. Kitts/Nevis and host country Dominica. The workshop’s web site at http://www.isisworld.lc/ictworkshop contains further details on the program and content of these workshops.
