Contact: Office of the Prime Minister

Thursday, May 15, 2003 – The Cabinet of Ministers has agreed to the granting of a Public Holiday on Wednesday May 21 20903 to allow the public the opportunity to attend the One-Day International (ODI) between Australia and the West Indies. This decision has been take in light of the fact that this will be the first one-day international to be hosted on a week day at Saint Lucia’s Beasejour Cricket Ground and maximum crowd participation at this match is seen as pivotal to saint Lucia’s bid to host matches in the 2007 Cricket World Cup to be held in the West Indies, a determination on which will be made by the end of this year.

The Cabinet wishes to inform the public that the granting of a holiday for this One Day International is strictly a one-off gesture, informed primarily by considerations relating to Saint Lucia’s bid to host 2007 World Cup matches and that no time-off will be granted for the upcoming test match between Sri Lanka and the West Indies.
