Tuesday, May 14, 2002 – Minister for Communications, Works, Transport and Public Utilities, Honourable Felix Finistierre has announced that his ministry stands to profit from a loan of twenty million dollars from the Agence Francaise De Development of France, to rehabilitate 20 kilometers of tertiary and agricultural farm roads.

Mr. Finistierre who made that announcement during his presentation at the 2002/2003 budget debate, indicated that government is in negotiation with the organisation to finalize arrangements for that project. According to Finistierre, the ministry will utilize its in- house capabilities to address the number of rural and agricultural roads needing attention. He also appealed to farmers to assist with the process where necessary.

The Minister said, his ministry will provide the technical expertise and material once the farmers have made the initial preparation for drainage, etc.

Among the roads that will receive attention, are roads leading to Heritage Tourism projects, including the Fond Jn. Libre road, the Venus to Millet road which forms part of the Anse La Raye Valley and the Fond St. Jacques road leading to the rain forest.

Government has also allocated a sum of five hundred thousand dollars for the Rural and Farm Road project, from the 2002/2003 budget.
