Monday, August 27, 2001 – Persons seeking medical attention at the Victoria Hospital will soon be required to produce some form of identification. The move is to ensure that the hospital improves its records on patients in the interest of accuracy.

Medical Records Manager at the Victoria Hospital, Heather Patrick, said the ID requirement will help them to know who patients are, the correct spelling of their names, their date of birth, and other important details. Such information is often required in cases, for example, where insurance payments have to be made, she explained.

Victoria Hospital is developing a sensitization programme to ensure that Saint Lucians clearly understand the reason for introducing the ID requirement and also to encourage them to develop the habit of bringing along some form of ID whenever they come for treatment.
