Prime Minister and Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Honourable Dr.
Kenny D. Anthony has welcomed the decision by the Petroleum Dealers Association
to return to normal operating hours. Dr.
Anthony says the decision is very sensible and lays the basis for new
discussions and dialogue on the issue of fuel prices. He adds that he has no difficulty in meeting with the
Petroleum Dealers Association to allow them to explain how, according to them,
he has been misled on the figures relating to fuel price increases. Recently,
the Petroleum Dealers Association had taken a decision to close gas stations by
6 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and all day on Sundays in response to the
government’s refusal to accede to their requests which included an increase in
profit margins, a moratorium on the granting of petroleum licenses for a period
of four (4) years, and the revision of the system of rebates to minibus
operators on fuel purchases. Earlier
today, the dealers announced that they were returning to regular hours of
operation. - end - |
