Friday, May 25, 2001 – Prime Minister Honourable Dr. Kenny Anthony will address the nation on the present water situation and the effects that the current dry spell is having on the island’s water supply.

The Prime Minister will deliver his address on Monday evening on local radio and television and will set the stage for the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASCO) to put its water conservation plans into action.

WASCO had sounded an early warning since late February that the water level at the John Compton Dam was dropping quickly and had initiated some conservation measures.  However, the situation has worsened in the last few months is adversely affecting the company’s ability to sustain the present water supply service throughout the island.

WASCO is expected to launch a full-scale public awareness campaign next week to encourage the public to practice water conservation and to minimise all possible activities that may contribute to wasting of water that is rapidly becoming an even more precious resource than normal.
