Hon. Mario MichelTuesday, September 11, 2001 – Education Minister Honourable Mario Michel says the bursary system currently being operated by his ministry is a far cry from what existed prior to 1997 and has yielded much better results.  Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, September 11, held at the studios of the Government Information Service, Minister Michel described the new bursary system as one with qualitative and quantitative value.

Press CorpMr. Michel noted that prior to 1997 when he assumed office, an average of 100 students received bursaries each year to assist with the purchase of schoolbooks.  Since 1997, he said, an average of three thousand needy students per year have been assisted under the new and improved bursary system and this year a total of 3,260 students were added to the scheme.
