Tuesday, January 09, 2001 - The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court has a new Acting High Court Judge. Monday, the Honourable Chief Justice Denys Arthur Barrow S.C, was sworn in to replace Justice Indra Hariprashad-Charles, currently on leave till Easter.

Justice Barrow, a Belizean and a graduate of the University of the West Indies Council of Legal Education, is a Senior Consul of Belize. Chief Justice, Dennis Byron, speaking at the swearing in ceremony at the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court headquarters, saw Justice Barrow’s experience, knowledge and commitment as a rebirth for the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, especially as the Court seeks to replace nearly a third of its judiciary mainly due to retirement.

On taking his oath of office, the new Acting High Court Judge pointed out that judges must be conscious of the responsibility bestowed upon them as molders of the law. He noted that a sound judge makes an integral contribution to society in shaping the law and providing guidance, direction and development to the legal profession.

Justice Barrow promised to work diligently in ensuring the swift execution of his duties while giving due recognition to the practical realities of judicial practice.
