Friday, June 29, 2001 - Top executives of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) met with representatives of the local cruise sector Thursday to discuss, among other things, regional trends in cruising, avenues for greater collaboration between the destination and cruise lines and St. Lucia’s plans for port Castries to become a premier cruise port.

Addressing Thursday’s meeting at Sandals St. Lucia Golf Resort and Spa, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Honourable Menissa Rambally, made an appeal for the identification of realistic proposals for translating vocal support into practical initiatives to benefit cruise tourism in St. Lucia.

Ms. Rambally also indicated that St. Lucia has put in place the infrastructural requirements for cruise tourism and developed a diversity of on shore activities.  Much effort, she noted, has been put into areas such as training, capacity building and certification of vendors and taxi drivers to ensure the safety and comfort of all visiting passengers.
