Friday, October 19, 2001 – Government has given the Victoria Hospital the necessary resources to substantially improve the delivery of health care to patients suffering with kidney disease.

Cabinet has just approved $3 million for the hospital’s Renal Dialysis Unit to meet the cost of physical refurbishment, providing specialist staff including two consultant specialists, equipment, as well as training and maintenance services. Six additional nurses will be recruited and given training in haemodialysis treatment through various courses and practical internships at Caribbean hospitals.

While refurbishment of Victoria’s Dialysis Unit is taking place, end-stage kidney failure patients will receive their treatment at the dialysis centre at the privately-owned Tapion Hospital.
