Tourism officials will review and assess two of the projects managed under the
Environmental Management Systems (EMS) next week.
The
Saint Lucia Nature Heritage Tourism programme in a collaborative effort with the
OECS Natural Resources Management Unit NRMU is seeking to develop environmental
management systems for the Tourism Programme’s sites and attractions.
Environmental Officer with the Nature
Heritage Tourism Programme Sharmon Jules says already five heritage sites have
been assessed under this collaborative effort and next week’s meeting is to
assess two other sites.
“So the workshop next week will be hosted to present and discuss these environmental management programmes that we have developed for two of the five sites that have already been assessed so that we could get feedback from the site operators and key stakeholders on the practicality and applicability of these environmental management programmes that we have developed,” says Jules.
Jules explains that since the establishment of EMS there has been improved
environmental maintenance of a number of
tourism sites throughout the island.
EMS also ensures that the nature heritage sites comply with international
environmental standards
“In effect we are very keen on this project because we know the marketing implications of this project and the overall effect it will have. Essentially it will really make Saint Lucia a truly sustainable tourism destination,” Jules ended. |
