Friday, October 19, 2001Cruise ship arrivals to Saint Lucia are projected to surpass 500,000 this year which will be a new  record.

So said Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Menissa Rambally, as she  welcomed two new vessels of the Celebrity Cruise Lines on their maiden voyages to Saint Lucia.

“Particularly over the last four years,  we have seen cruise arrivals grow significantly for us. That has been significant because it impacted tangibly on the lives of persons, which is really our position with regard to tourism,” she said.

“The Government believes that sustainable tourism is about people, it’s about people benefiting, it’s about people participating; and the cruise sector allows that opportunity,” the tourism minister added.

Miss Rambally praised taxi drivers, vendors and the site operators of the various tourist attractions for making the stay of cruise passengers an enjoyable experience.
