Thursday, January 25, 2001 – The Cabinet of Ministers has given the green light for the adoption of the theme “Respect, Tolerance and Togetherness,” for St. Lucia’s 22nd Anniversary of Independence.

The chosen theme embodies the attitude that St. Lucians are being encouraged to reflect as the nation prepares to commemorate this momentous occasion in its history.

Independence activities usually begin in the final week of January and reach a highpoint on Independence Day, February 22.  This year’s celebrations, although not as big as those planned for the 21st anniversary of Independence celebrated last year, are being focused on communities with a few traditional national events scheduled to be held on and around the day itself.

A schedule of the main events for this year’s Independence celebrations is expected to be released shortly.
