Youth Parliament takes Centre Stage in Youth Month |

Youth Parliamentarians meet on Friday, April 28, 2000 for the fourth Youth
Parliament, where the National Youth Policy Document now in its final draft will
be the main paper to be “tabled”. Several key aspects of the document are
expected to be discussed including its relevance to and impact on young people.
Youth
Parliament forms part of activities in observance of youth month observed in
April each year, during which young people imitate Parliamentary proceedings. Youth Parliament Coordinator Webster Joseph says its
fundamental purpose is to serve as a learning exercise.
“There are a few youth parliamentarians around the world and we are
hoping that one day youth would actually be able to discuss issues that are
pertinent to them rather than leave it to their representatives, the members of
the actual parliament. So it is more or less grooming the young people,” added
Joseph.
The draft youth policy document is expected to be debated in the House of Assembly later this year. |
