March 4, 1999 - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports Honourable Mario Michel will lead St. Lucia’s delegation to the 10th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The meeting is scheduled for March 4 – 5, 1999 in Suriname.

Some of the issues to be discussed at the meeting include the establishment of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy and of a Caribbean Court of Justice, and progress regarding Haiti’s accession to the Caribbean Community. Trade issues will also feature prominently on the agenda with representatives from the Regional Negotiating Machinery scheduled to report to the Heads of Government on progress in negotiations for a successor agreement to the Lome IV Convention.

Additionally, there will be retreat to which seven representatives of the region’s youth have been invited to join the heads of Government in discussing the Community in the Next Decade.

The St. Lucia delegation to the meeting includes Cabinet Secretary, Anthony Severin and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Earl Huntley.
