National Heroes Day

June 22, 1998 - National Heroes Day, a day when persons living or deceased, who have significantly contributed to the development of Saint Lucia are honored, has been designated for the first Monday in August every year.  The disclosure was made by the Ministry of Community Development, Culture, Local Government and Cooperatives.

The Cabinet of Ministers agreed to the drafting and enactment of legislation to provide for the declaration of Emancipation Day as National Heroes Day.  The appointment of an advisory committee, consisting of nine persons will be drawn up soon.

The coordinating agency for National Heroes Day will be the Ministry of Culture.
