September 7, 1998 - A major youth forum will be staged here this weekend in preparation for St. Lucia’s participation in the Caribbean Youth Summit on Adolescents Reproductive Health Rights. The October 4 to 7 summit, which will be held in Barbados, is a follow up to the 1994 Cairo Conference on Population and Development.

Chairman of the local preparatory committee, Patrick Mathurine says the weekend forum will be used to assess adolescent reproductive health and rights and the scope of service programmes and health information; dealing with adolescent sexual and reproductive rights. "We are going to find out what has happens since then (Cairo), how far has adolescent rights in terms of sexuality, reproductive rights have gone," Mathurine tells the GIS. He added that the committee would also give recommendations as to how the process should move on.

The forum findings will be included in a Caribbean report to be presented at the Barbados Summit. It will be used to determine the region’s progress on reproductive issues, since the 1994 Population and Development Conference in Cairo.
