October 22, 1998 - Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Kenny Anthony, says the Government of St. Lucia has received the report on the Institutional Appraisal and Strategic Review of the Royal St. Lucia Police Force.

The review was commissioned by the Department for International Development (DFID) at the request of the Government of St. Lucia and was conducted in August of this year. The team of consultants from the United Kingdom reviewed the structure and functions of the police force, its leadership and direction, its links with the criminal justice system and the support services for the police force. The review also considered improving the image of the police force and the move towards community policing.

Prime Minister Anthony says the report makes several recommendations along with an implementation strategy and time table. He said, AGovernment will move aggressively to implement the proposals contained in the report with a view to providing St. Lucia with a police force that is properly suited to fighting crime while maintaining excellent relations with the public.@
