September 22, 1998 - Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Honourable Dr. Kenny D. Anthony says the money provided by the European Community to assist the St. Lucia Banana Growers Association with its restructuring programme is now in St. Lucia. This money is to be used by the SLBGA to meet its commitments to workers who will be affected as a result of the restructuring, necessary to facilitate the privatization process.

The money will be available to the SLBGA in a day or two, as soon as the relevant paperwork and processing is completed.

The Prime Minister says government is pleased that the money is in Saint Lucia so that the SLBGA can meet its commitments to its workers, and proceed towards the privatization of the industry, with a view to securing a better future for bananas.
