September 24, 1997 - St. Lucia was represented at a World Trade Organization regional workshop on Financial Services Negotiations for the Caribbean.

The September 15 to 16 meeting was geared to assist with the dissemination of information to technical officials in trade and finance as well as to discuss the general agreement on trade and services and the rules and negotiations on financial services.

The meeting also deliberated on the regulatory objectives of the general agreement on trade and services and techniques of scheduling commitments and offers as instruments of negotiations under the GATT. During the workshop, participants were opportune to analyze case studies in telecommunications, accounting and the banking sectors.

Representing St. Lucia at the meeting was the Deputy Director of Finance, Mr. Calixte Leon and Trade Officer David Jordan.

The workshop was facilitated by officials of the trade division of the WTO.
