September 24, 1997 - Acting Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Gros Islet the Hon. Mario Michel, has welcomed the latest efforts on the part of Police and the Ministry of Tourism, at addressing the mounting incidents of crime within the northern town.

Mr. Michel told a news conference last week, that efforts had gotten underway to draft in the newly appointed Gros Islet Town Council, into the fight.  As of late, the major players within the tourism industry have been discussing the question of blanking "Gros Islet Friday Night" from the calendar of activities.

Mr. Michel says dialogue with the key players have commenced, asking that such a drastic measure be held back.
