House of Parliament Procedure

 

For the late Sir John Compton Prime Minister of St. Lucia

 

At the Parliament Building

 

The body of the late Sir John Compton Prime Minister of St. Lucia will lie in State at the Parliament Building, Castries on Friday 14th September 2007 during the hours of 7:30am to 6:00pm.

 

  • The casket will arrive in procession from Rambally’s Funeral Parlour at 7.30am.  Parliamentarians headed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Assembly will receive the bereaved family at the entrance of Parliament Building.

 

  • The casket will then be removed from the coach by pall bearers.  The Clerk of Parliament, the Sergeant-at-Arms, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House will accompany the cortege to the Parliament Chamber where the body will lie in State.

 

The following officials will be invited to file post.

 

  • Her Excellency the President

  • The Hon. Prime Minister

  • The Hon. Chief Justice

  • The President of the Senate

  • The Leader of the Opposition

  • Other Members of Parliament and special invited guests.

 

At the end of the ceremonies, Members of Parliament will form a guard of Honour leading out of Parliament Chamber unto the roadway. 

 

The casket will then be removed from the Parliament Chamber by the Police.

 

Preceded by the Sergeant-at-Arms and the Clerk of Parliament, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House will accompany the body of the late Prime Minister from the Parliament Chamber to the Coach. 

 

Both Presiding Officers will bid farewell to the bereaved family. 

 

Members of the public are invited to come out to witness the commencement of state proceedings for the late Prime Minister Sir John Compton.   The public is asked to note that between the hours of 8:30 am and 10:00 am Her Excellency, Governor General, Prime Minister, other members of Parliament and the Diplomatic Corps will be paying their respects. The public will be able to pay their respects from 10:00 am until 5:30 pm
